“The dentists of Alabama had longed for reforms in the Alabama Board of Dental Examiners. The Board is elected by the dentists, but is under the jurisdiction of the State Legislature to control the practice of dentistry and protect the public.

When these reforms were first begun the dentists of the State sought leadership from one of the most respected dentists in Alabama, Dr. Paul Bussman of Cullman. Paul was the past president of the Alabama Academy of General Dentistry, and being a man of high morals and faith was the best person to lead this movement.
