It is with a deep commitment for a better future in Alabama, that I announce my candidacy for the Alabama State Senate. Serving the public as a Senator is a tremendous responsibility and requires the highest level of character and integrity.
As your elected representative, I will expect and demand excellence and honesty from our legislature. I will seek out, expose and close the existing loopholes that have allowed corruption and dishonesty to flourish in Alabama. The people of Alabama have a right to know exactly who is giving our legislators money and gifts and exactly how much is being given by each source. We can no longer tolerate sneaky, under the table and unidentifiable payments and perks that knowingly compromise the integrity of the Senate. To accomplish this goal, we must elect people with character and honor.
As your Senator, I will protect and defend the Christian values in which you and I were raised. Christian values like ‘The Golden Rule’ where we treat others as we would like to be treated. Christian values that support a strong family structure where marriage is between a man and woman and all life, from conception to death, is important. Christian values that help and care for those in need, not those who lazily live off of the system. In many states across America, our Christian values are being challenged, restricted and abandoned. I will not let that happen in Alabama.
Alabama must become financially secure and stop the ‘feast or famine’ budget mentality. To do this we must establish a reasonable budget and set aside surplus money in the prosperous times for support in difficult times. For a new program to be implemented, some other program needs to be eliminated or reduced an equal amount. The government cannot and should not continue to grow. It is in everyone’s best interest, both individually and economically, to keep the government as small as possible.
Education is the key to prosperity in Alabama. Continually being ranked one of the worst states in America for education is unacceptable. We do not tolerate being at the bottom in college football, so we should not tolerate being at the bottom in education. Money, however, is not the entire answer. Education levels have not improved over the years even though we have doubled the education budget. As parents, it is our responsibility to educate our children. Our children are too important and their future depends on it.
It has been said that you can tell a lot about a person by the way they spend their free time and money. I have spent my entire caree r working to build a better community. Over the last 25 years, I have been in the leadership role of a wide variety of community activities. I ask you to take some time to look over my activities on the other pages of this website. I hope that you will agree that my experience and involvement shows a total commitment to a better community.
I ask you to join with me in this challenge. Your help is needed! As concerned citizens, we must expect and demand excellence from our leaders. Together we can make a difference in Alabama. With your help, we can restore integrity to our state government.
Sincerely,
Paul D. Bussman |
